5 Ways Your Business Can Give Off the Right First Impression, Every Time

We all know that first impressions count. Whether you’re visiting a store in person, checking out their website, or calling them to enquire about a product or service, the first interaction you have with a business will set you up for your future relationship, and indeed determine whether or not you’re going to buy from them. Below, we’ve put together some top tips on giving off the right first impression every time, whatever industry your business operates in.

    Do it with a smile

People don’t buy from businesses – they buy from people. Whether you’re meeting up with a potential client to discuss a new business opportunity or you’re dealing with a complaint over the phone, always smile and be positive when speaking to your clients. The more friendly and engaging you are, the better the chances of resolving the issue – or getting your client over the line. Be polite, friendly, and confident; you are always representing your business!

Make sure your premises look their best

One common area where businesses fail to impress is with their premises. Whether you’re a retailer with a store in the middle of town or run an office block on the edge of the city, it’s so important that you keep your premises looking their best. If a new customer or candidate turns up and sees that your car park is full of litter, your windows need cleaning, or you’ve failed to maintain your grounds, it will reflect badly on your organization and could cost you. Work with a firm that specialises in facilities management services and you’ll be good to go

    Have a conversation right away

Whether you’re selling cosmetic surgery or interior design, having a conversation with any new leads is so important. If they get in touch to arrange a consultation or to ask about your services, listen to what they have to say and offer some recommendations off-the-bat, rather than immediately booking them in to speak to an advisor. Start the relationship off right; you’re the expert in your industry, so you should be ready and willing to offer help right away.

    Stop automating your business

Although automation tools like email auto-replies and voice recognition telephone lines are good for improving your bottom line, they don’t give off the right first impression. Consumers want to feel like they’re being listened to, not that they’re just another number, so try to break down the barriers and start off on the right foot. Say hello, introduce yourself, and ensure that every member of staff has a professionally-shot image in their email signature. It can be natural to want to keep things professional, but personalising your brand is vital for retention.

    Don’t forget about your toilets

Finally, make sure you invest in a good workplace cleaning regime and ensure that your toilets are checked on a regular basis. It’s so easy to overlook the basics like this, but if a new client turns up and needs to use your facilities, they’ll be put off if they haven’t been well-maintained. The same goes for your staff – the easiest way to show them you don’t care is to cut corners unnecessarily. A good cleaning team is vital for productivity and wellbeing.

There you have it – some top tips on giving off the right first impression. Do you have any others to add to this list? Let us know and check back soon for more advice, on our blog.
